December Project: $20.00 Bookshelf

I guess the first thing to do with the bookshelf is clean the dirt and grime of of it. I got it from the Salvation Army for $20.00

I am just going to wipe it down with dish detergent and water.

Update, it is January 8th and the bookshelf it still on my patio. I have washed it but that's all. I have a few days off so I am either gonna continue to work on it or just wipe it down again andfind a place for it indoors.

The Recipes Thread: Spaghetti and Meatballs

Spaghetti and Meatballs

The following recipe is one I like to use:

Ingredients:
Pasta (8oz)
Cinnamon (1/2 tsp)
Ground Beef (1/2lb)
Bread Crumbs (1/4 cup)
Parmesan Cheese (1/4 cup grated)
Onion (1/4 cup chopped)
Milk (1/8 cup)
Egg
Garlic Powder (1 tsp)
Ground Pepper (1/4 tsp)
Pasta Sauce (1 jar)

Equipment:
6 quart pot
2 large pots
cookie sheet
Colander
Large Bowl

1) Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2) Combine bread crumbs, cinnamon, parmesan, onion, milk, beef, garlic, egg and pepper in a large bowl. Roll into meatballs (you pick the size, I think smaller is better - in this case). Place meatballs onto baking sheet.

3) Bake about 15 minutes or until well done.

While the meatballs are baking, you can start the sauce and pasta.

PASTA:
1) Boil 4 quarts of water in the huge ass pot.

2) Add salt to taste.

3) Boil uncovered, stirring occasionally for 10 minutes. Pasta is done when you throw a piece of spaghetti onto the wall and it sticks.

4) Drain pasta in Colander.

5) Place into one of the smaller pots.

SAUCE:
1) Heat pasta sauce in other pot. Add meatballs and keep simmering until heated throughout.

Eat (preferably with salad, garlic bread & wine)

The Recipes Thread

First Recipe is from Brendan from

http://www.banditsbabes.com/forum/general-talk/2170-recipe-thread-starting-ribs.html

Well, I was asked how I make my ribs since I made some tonight for Mere and her family So I'll share my way here.

There's a million different ways to cook them but this is mine:

I like to use fresh never frozen ribs. I buy them straight from the abattoir (slaughterhouse).

We'll base this off of 2 full racks of ribs.

This is what you'll need:

Food:

2 Full racks of Back Ribs (duh)
1 2L bottle of Coca-Cola (not pepsi, not no-name, not diet, MUST be coca-cola classic, no exceptions)
Chicken & Rib BBQ Sauce
Hot & Spicy BBQ Sauce
Red Hot Sauce
Garlic Salt
Fresh ground pepper
Olive Oil
Rum
"Garlic Plus" Seasoning

Equipment:

Crock Pot
BBQ
BBQ Brush
misc bowls/platters
spoons/etc.

Take your rack of ribs, and cut them in half so they'll fit into your crockpot. Toss all 4 pieces in there and put in 2 shots of rum. Now fill the rest of the crockpot with your coca-cola right to the top. I cannot stress enough that it needs to be coca-cola.. pepsi doesn't work, nor does anything else. You can skip the rum if you don't have any, but MAKE SURE YOU USE COKE.

Put your crockpot on high and go find something to do for a few hours.

When It hits the 2 hour mark, flip your ribs around. Check on them to see how they're doing and put the lid back on.

When it hits about the 3.5 hour mark your ribs should be about ready to pull out of there. You should see lots of shit floating around in there.. thats normal.. thats fine.. and the liquid around the ribs won't look much like coke anymore. The meat should be very tender by now, and you shoudl be able to see some perfectly white bone. If you bought some bullshit ribs they may take a bit longer. But 3.5 hours should do it. I wouldn't go too much more than 4 hours or so because they'll start falling apart at that point and be impossible to bbq.. You want them at the point where they're just about ready to fall apart.

To prepare your sauce.. take 1 cup chicken and rib sauce, 1/2 cup hot and spicy bbq sauce, and 1/8 cup of the Red hot sauce. Add ground pepper and garlic salt to taste and mix it all up. (You can never have too much sauce, I'm guessing the amounts here.. I usually just eye it up.. you want to end up with something sweet and tangy with a bit of spice)

Go get your bbq warmed up.. have the burners set to about medium.

Now pull your ribs out of the crockpot.. and lay them out on a platter of some sort.

Add olive oil to each side of them.. and brush it on liberally, shake on some of the garlic plus as well.

BBQ the ribs on medium heat until they begin to crisp up a bit, get golden brown and have bbq marks on them.. now brush on some sauce and flip them over.. cover both sides with sauce.

Reduce the BBQ heat to low at this time. Continually flipping over the ribs and repeatedly saucing them. All the sauce should get very thick and dark in areas.. with nice bbq marks on it. Keep putting sauce on there until you run out of sauce. Keep BBQ closed when you're not flipping the ribs.

I usually bbq the ribs for about 1/2 hour - 45 mins. The sauce will be very thick and gooey by the time you are done, and will have nice bbq marks on it and be extremely tasty.

That's it.. bring those mofo's to the table and enjoy. They're messy as hell.. but just pick em up and eat em. Don't be a pansy.

Father's Day

It's Father's Day. I have not yet called home and I am wary about doing so..

Mr. Big, I understand

My wife and I saw Sex & the City on saturday.

I really didn't want to see this movie. I'd hear it was long and that if you did not watch the television show you would like it because this was essentially five new episodes of the show.

It was long..and I had never seen an episode of the show.

Karma and Blood

This week I started this thing where I allow my self $10 a day. I want to see how that goes. Since Monday, it has been suprisingly easy, even to the point where I spent less than $10 a couple of days in a row.

The allowance does not include regular bills, the monthly grocery run, one date a week or the gas fill-ups (and i have to keep my tank 3/4 full at all times).

In this time, I have learned to manage my time a little better so that I can cook breakfast in the morning, make a sandwich for lunch, and cook dinner if needed.

Of course, I have noticed unforeseen benefits already manifesting themselves. I am able to better watch what I eat. No more mindless grazing at the office vending machine. My snacks are trail mix (from the grocery allowance) and I drink much more water to curb my appetite.

When it comes down to it, there is not much I need from day-to-day that would cause me to have to spend $10 a day. Looking back on how this week went, I realized that if I stop eating fastfood and other restaurants, and stop buying t-shirts, magazines, beer cozies or other unnecessary things - $10 dollars a day is a cake walk.

..And I also notice the saving add up pretty quickly!
__________________________________________________ _______________

Today and Saturday, however, I had planned to go to the movies. I planned to see "Indiana Jones" with a coworker on Saturday and take my girl to see "Sex and the City" tonight.

Obviously this would have presented a problem for the experiment I am conducting - even with the extra dollars I have rolled over from one day to the next.

I considered this on my way home from work. As I drove and thought, I noticed a blood donation truck in the Sears parking lot. They were giving away t-shirts for blood donations. I said "What the hell, might as well."

I go in, fill out the paperwork and wait my turn. As I wait, one of the nurses ask me if it would be too uch of an inconvience if I went to their other blood donation site. One of their workers had to leave so they were closing this one to replace to other van.

I didn't mind so I said "Sure, no problem" The other van was only on the other side of the parking lot. So I put my top back on and drive over to the other site.

The van was parked right next to the movie theater and when they finished resetting everything, she opened the door. When I walked in, she said she was glad that I didn't leave and not comeback (apparently some people are dicks and would do something like that. Me, I had nowhere I needed to be.)

So I sit there get my blood taken, drink free apple juice, and read a magazine. When I get ready to leave she give me a tshirt and, "since I was so nice" she also hands me a movie ticket good for any movie.

So now, I am feeling good because I don't have to buy my "Indiana Jones" ticket and I have a free tshirt.

When I get home, there is a note on the kitchen counter from the wife. She and a few of the other neighborhood women are gonna have a "Ladies Night Out" - which I am pretty sure will involve them going to see "Sex and the City."

I am very happy with how this day is going.

The Married Life

My wife and I married on Valentine's Day of this year.

We met October 31 of last year...four months earlier.

We actually knew of each other for a longer time than that, but, we hadn't actually really talked until October 31st...it was an 18 hour flight and we were seated next to each other ...I think that countsas three dates right?
